Chain Generator Is Here — 253 Chains for Blender

After four months of development, Chain Generator v1.0.0 is available. The goal is simple: make adding chains and chain-like detail to a Blender scene fast, flexible and easy to art-direct.

Chain Generator is the next step in the PeakDreams idea of building focused Blender add-ons that remove repetitive modeling while leaving the artist in control. Ornament Generator was built around decorative surface detail; Chain Generator takes the same fast choose-and-generate philosophy and applies it to chains, jewelry, hanging elements and other repeating assets.

253 assets, ready to use

The Full edition launches with 253 ready-made chain assets organized into 5 categories. The library is intentionally broader than only classic metal chain links: it is designed to cover regular and jewelry work as well as stylized, fantasy and chain-like details such as ropes, pipes, thorns and other repeating elements.

Starter includes 12 chains, Lite includes 100, and Full gives access to all 253. Every version uses the same core workflow, so you can pick the library size that matches the project.

Generate from selected edges

The fastest workflow starts directly from mesh topology. Select an edge or connected edge path in Edit Mode, run Generate Chain, choose an asset and refine the result. The addon automatically repeats and fits the selected chain along the generated curve, which makes it useful for props, architecture, mechanical assets and any model where the path already exists.

Draw chains in 3D space or on a surface

Chain Generator also includes Draw Chain. View Plane mode lets you sketch a path at the 3D Cursor depth, while Surface mode lets you draw directly across another mesh. This is especially useful when the chain needs to follow a character, piece of jewelry, armor, a curved prop or an irregular environment surface.

After drawing, the path is simplified automatically so unnecessary points are removed while important bends remain. You can then keep changing Scale, Tilt and the main chain settings without redrawing the stroke.

Close Curve for loops and jewelry

When a drawn chain needs to become a bracelet, necklace or another closed shape, Close Curve connects the end of the path back to the start and recalculates the chain to fill the loop. It is a small option, but it makes circular and jewelry workflows much faster.

Procedural Sagging

Sagging adds controlled gravity-like hanging sections to the chain. You can set the sag amount, exact number of hanging sections and their resolution, widen the lower U-shape, or create sharper support points for stylized and fantasy layouts. Because the sag profile is rebuilt from the original path, you can keep experimenting without stacking deformation on top of previous changes.

Controls that stay editable

Offset and Z Offset handle placement, Scale and Extra Scale change the link size, Tilt controls rotation around the path, Switch Direction reverses orientation, and Decimate Factor can reduce geometry density. Curve Handle, Twist, Smooth and Resolution controls help when a chain needs to negotiate sharp bends or complex paths.

Where I expect it to be useful

I built Chain Generator with several workflows in mind: necklaces and bracelets, chains on armor and weapons, bags and clothing details, hanging environment elements, barriers, anchors and hoists, mechanical details, and exaggerated fantasy or stylized designs. The main idea is that the chain should become a detail you can art-direct in seconds rather than something you need to model from scratch every time.

Chain Generator v1.0.0 is available on both Superhive and Gumroad. I’m continuing to collect feedback for future updates, including additional non-chain assets, workflow improvements and features suggested by users.
